PostHeaderIcon Betting on Major League Baseball

Betting on MLB baseball is both fun and profitable. The purpose of this article is to explain the basics of baseball betting. We will talk about the line as well as some points to help you win more when betting on the MLB baseball. Baseball is down on the list as far as betting volume goes. For whatever reason, the bulk of sports betting is done on football and basketball. MLB baseball is a great sports betting option. Each season is filled with a plethora of opportunities.

Baseball betting revolves around the money line. Unlike football and basketball, which use spreads, in baseball sports bettors simply need to pick the real game winner of each event. The “spread” is worked in the money that must be laid or taken for each side. For example, let’s say that the New York Yankees are playing the Kansas City Royals. Let’s assume that the Yankees are having a great year and the Royals not so much. You might see a line like this: Yankees -300 Royals +270.

In our example, you would need to wager .00 on the Yankees for every one dollar you wanted back-should they win. Unlike football and basketball, the Yankees don’t need to win by a certain amount. They simply need to win the game. Bettors of the Royals in our example would receive .70 for every .00 they wagered. You see, the closer the two teams are to each other, skill wise, generally the closer the game is on the money line. Let’s look at another example.

This time we will look at a game against two first place teams-Team X and Team Y. All things being equal, the line might be something like Team Y -110 Team X +105. You see, the closer the teams are, the closer the line is to .00. It’s important to remember that the job of the spread is not to predict outcomes, but to split public opinion. I bring this up, because there are “gifts” out there. For example, this season there was a game involving the Royals-they were the worst team in baseball at the time.

The Royals were playing a sub-.500 team, which means that team has lost more games than it won. The game should have been somewhat close on the money line, but linemakers knew they could not split the public with a close line. As a result, the line was set at +260 for the Royals. This happened three games in a row and the Royals won 2 of those 3. This example clearly shows that the job of the line is to split the public and not predict games.

Here’s a quick tip. When you are deciding who will win a MLB baseball game, look at the whole team. Too often losing sports bettors simply look at the starting pitching. However, starters will only pitch about 66% of the game on average. What about the other 34%? Don’t fall into the trap of buying starting pitching. Do your homework and look at the team as a whole.

PostHeaderIcon 2010 Fantasy Baseball Top 50 Rankings (Oki’s Overall 50)

Positions Tiers Rankings: | C | 1B | 2B | SS | 3B | OF | SP | RP |

2010 Fantasy Baseball Top 50 Rankings

1. Albert Pujols – STL – 1B

This year, Albert Pujols and Hanley Ramirez are the undisputed #1 and #2 picks in the 2010 rankings. You may be able to argue for Hanley with the first overall pick seeing that SS is a pretty shallow position this year, however Pujols is just too solid to pass up. As the great Marshawn Lynch once said, “Naw, it don’t get no better than solid baby.” This guy is a workhorse, guaranteeing you 150 games and a stat line of at least .325-40-120. The recent signing of Matt Holliday also gives Pujols some valuable protection, which he has not had the luxury of having the past years.

2. Hanley Ramirez – FLA – SS

Once Pujols is taken off the board, the #2 pick is a no brainer. With Miguel Cabrera out of Florida and Hanley hitting in the three spot, it seems like he will be a lock for 100 Runs and RBIs for years to come. Only 26 years of age, Hanley will give you plenty of production in every category.

3. Alex Rodriguez – NYY – 3B

I think the 3-5 picks can be scrambled in any order but I think that A-Rod should be third because if it weren’t for his hip injury, I am positive that A-Rod would have had one of his MVP caliber seasons that would have put him in the argument for a #1 pick. I see Rodriguez having a great season with a line around .310-40-120 not to mention at least 15 stolen bases. With the stacked Yankees lineup there should be no concern for a drop in A-Rod’s numbers.

4. Ryan Braun – MIL – OF

Braun had a bit of a sophomore slump in 2008 but showed in 2009 that he is the real deal. I expect no less from Braun this year and see him hitting above 1.000 OPS this year. Braun is good for at least .315-35-110 and about 15-20 SB.

5. Chase Utley – PHI – 2B

Utley is the top 2B at a very shallow position. Utley is guaranteed to give you a .900 OPS and has had excellent health the past 5 seasons other than minor stint in 2007. While I do not think that Utley will rack up 23 steals like in 2009, I expect him to get about 15 stolen bases in 2010.

6. Matt Kemp – LAD – OF

Matt Kemp is a straight up fantasy stud. Kemp’s all around game will enable him to contribute in all five categories, going for a line of at least .300-25-100-100-30. With a healthy Manny and solid bats around him, I see Kemp having a high-quality season.

7. Carl Crawford – TB – OF

While Crawford has never been able to obtain that 25 HR power that we have all been expecting of him, he has still been a menace on the base path, averaging 50 stolen bases the past 7 years. This year should be no different. Expect Crawford to score 100 runs, while playing at least 150 games.

8. Tim Lincecum – SF – SP

Being from the Seattle area and hearing about Lincecum since his college days at UW, it still makes me cringe knowing that the Mariners could have drafted Lincecum instead of Brandon (can’t throw a strike) Morrow. Lincecum has won 2 Cy Young Awards and is only 25 years of age. With his added changeup last year, I don’t see why Tiny Tim can’t win another Cy Young this season. I expect at least 250 punch outs and a sub 2.70 ERA this year, with his wins fluctuating anywhere from 15-20 depending on how many runs his stingy offense can give him.

9. Prince Fielder – MIL – 1B

This large vegetarian led the majors in RBIs last season with 141. While Fielder’s batting average could fluctuate anywhere from .270-.300, I see Fielder locked in for 45 bombs and 130 RBIs.

10. Miguel Cabrera – DET – 1B

After seeing his OPS drop below .900 for the first time in 3 seasons in 2008, Miguel bounced back to post a .943 OPS last season. Now that Cabrera has settled in to Detroit, I expect another solid year from the 7 year veteran at only age 26. Miguel has never played less than 157 games in the past 6 seasons and should put up the same or even better numbers from last year.

11. Joe Mauer – MIN – C

Could be even higher but just not sure if the power is for real.

12. Roy Halladay – PHI – SP

Automatic 20 game winner this year playing for the Phillies and a move to the NL should equate a great season.

13. Mark Texeira – NYY – 1B

Very consistent and with the most stacked lineup in baseball, shoudn’t have trouble putting up the numbers.

14. Ryan Howard – PHI – 1B

The strikeouts have been costly on his batting average, but can’t argue with the 45+ home runs and 140 RBIs.

15. Felix Hernandez – SEA – SP

Only 23 years old? With the Mariners making many defensive acquisitions, I see King Felix winning a Cy Young in 2010.

16. Evan Longoria – TB – 3B

24 years of age, Longoria will only continue to improve.

17. Jacoby Ellsbury – BOS – OF

Stole 70 bases last year and I see him swiping around 60 in 2010.

18. Troy Tulowitzki – COL – SS

Finally time for Tulo to solidify himself as one of the elite players in baseball.

19. David Wright – NYM – 3B

Last season was not even that bad, should go back to his 30-30 ways.

20. Justin Upton – ARI – OF

Only 22 years old, the potential for this guy is off the charts.

21. Matt Holliday – STL – OF

Holliday had an OPS of 1.023 while playing in 63 games for the Cardinals last year.

22. Ian Kinsler – TEX – 2B

Possible move to the 5-6 hole should just mean more RBIs and a small decline in runs. However he will still find a way to steal 25 bases

23. Zack Greinke – KC – SP

Had an amazing year but I think a low 3 ERA is more realistic this year. Playing for KC hurts his wins as well.

24. Jose Reyes – NYM – SS

The injuries to his legs are a concern for his stolen bases this year, however Reyes is a super star and he will find a way to produce this year.

25. Derek Jeter – NYY – SS

At age 35 Jeter posted one of the best seasons of his career. However expect a drop in his stolen bases.

26. Grady Sizemore – CLE – OF

Maybe should be a little higher considering he should produce a 30-30 season.

27. Ichiro Suzuki – SEA – OF

His stolen bases are always a mystery but with Chone batting behind him taking a lot of pitches (101 BB last season), I except some more swipes this year.

28. Adrian Gonzalez – SD – 1B

If Gonzalez gets dealt this mid season and out of cavernous Petco, his value could rise tremendously.

29. Robinson Cano – NYY – 2B

If only he could bat higher up in the stacked Yankees lineup, we could see some more RBIs.

30. Dustin Pedroia – 2B

Pedroia was the 2008 AL MVP and did so by putting up solid numbers at second base. I expect him to improve from his 2009 season.

31. CC Sabathia – NYY – SP

CC is a workhorse and should put up great numbers like usual.

32. Dan Haren – ARI – SP

Look at Haren’s Post All-Star and Pre All-Star numbers throughout his career. Trade him away after the first half of the season.

33. Jimmy Rollins – PHI – SS

Has been all over the place throughout his career but expect 20 homers and 30 stolen bases. Not bad for a SS in a rather shallow position.

34. Brandon Philips – CIN – 2B

Will put up similar numbers to Rollins except from second base.

35. Jayson Werth – PHI – OF

With the stacked Phillies lineup, Werth should go for .270-30-100-100-20.

36. Ryan Zimmerman – WAS – OF

Zimmerman finally put up the numbers that we had expected since 2006. Now at age 25 expect him to continue putting up those numbers.

37. Jason Bay – NYM – OF

Other than his 2007 season, Bay has been very consistent over the years, and the move to the Mets should be good for him.

38. Justin Verlander – DET – SP

Finally put it all together to post career highs in IP, Wins, SO, ERA, and WHIP.

39. Jon Lester – BOS – SP

Surprised me with the strikeout numbers but other than that should expect the same output.

40. Kevin Youkilis – BOS – 1B/3B

Youkilis has really solidified himself into an elite hitter the past 2 years, now being able to produce in both halves of the season.

41. Joey Votto – CIN – OF

Had he played 162 games he would have put up .322-30-100-100.

42. Pablo Sandoval – SF – 1B/3B

If Kung Fu Panda could get a few more games played at catcher this year, value could go way up.

43. Mark Reynolds – ARI – 1B/3B

If he can hit 40 home runs and steal 20 bases, it won’t matter that he bats .250 and strikes out another 200 times.

44. Brian Roberts – BAL – 2B

Good old Brian Roberts should put up another good season at second base.

45. Adam Lind – TOR – OF

Struggles a bit against lefties but puts up outstanding numbers against righties.

46. Justin Morneau – MIN – 1B

Could be a steal if he comes back completely healthy, however a back injury is a little worrisome.

47. Nick Markakis – BAL – OF

Hit a little bump in the road last season, but should bounce back nicely.

48. Victor Martinez – BOS – C/1B

Boston lineup boosted Victor’s numbers a bit and giving him rest at 1B is good for his health.

49. Kendry Morales – LAA – 1B

Posted monster numbers in the minors and when finally given the chance at a starting job, he didn’t disappoint.

50. Brian McCann – ATL – C

After McCann, there’s a considerable drop-off at the catcher position other than the possibility of  Wieters breaking out this season.

PostHeaderIcon Baseball’s complete game is a thing of the past

There are a lot of rational and plausible reasons and explanations for why the complete game in baseball is a thing of the past.  There could be an easy laundry list of items listed to support this assertion.  However, I am proclaiming that there is one primary reason, and one only, as to why pitchers no longer pitch nine innings.  It can be said in two; no, let’s make it one word: LaRussa.

Tony LaRussa began as a baseball player.  I vividly recall him playing for the Oakland A’s when I was a young child.  I liked him.  He didn’t last with the team, though, and was traded.  It was Dick Green who had the primary job at second base.  Years later, LaRussa returned to the A’s, and when he did, times changed.

There must be something about the Oakland A’s franchise because throughout the decades, it’s been associated with strange things.  Not everything caught on, but a lot of it did.  Past owner Charlie O. Finley was eccentric, and he brought to baseball some eccentric things for the day — orange baseballs, colorful uniforms, night games in the world series, ball girls, and the designated hitter.  Inadvertently, he was the man who brought about free agency.

Dick Williams managed the A’s through some great times. He had some crazy ideas, too.  He rotated his second basemen, each playing three innings and then being pinch-hit for by a better batter.  The designated runner came around during his era, too.

It was Tony LaRussa, though, who came to the A’s as a manager and changed pitching forever.  Soon, a trade was made that brought Dennis Eckersley to the team as well.  That was it.  Eckersley became the closer, the ultimate closer, a position honed to success like no other pitcher had ever done.  In fact, he was so good that he was oftentimes brought in for a single pitch.

Starters, under LaRussa, pitched five or six innings.  There was no such thing anymore as long and short relievers, not as they’d been traditionally.  With pitching coach Dave Duncan, also a past A’s player, at his side.  LaRussa re-defined pitching.  Specialists were the new model, and not just with the closers.

Relievers took on very defined roles on the squad.  The A’s had pitchers who were practically assigned to pitch at a certain time.  It became routine.  Starter A began the game, pitched five or six innings, and was automatically removed from the game.  Mid-reliever A would pitch an inning and be gone.  Mid-reliever B would pitch the next one, or maybe two, innings and then hit the showers.  That left the eighth inning man who might or might not be allowed to start the ninth inning.  The ninth became the time of the closer, and that meant Eckersley, or one of the other two closers who worked when Eck couldn’t, which was rare.

The days of a starter going for nine was gone; so was the era of a pitcher being knocked out in the sixth and being replaced by one man who would go the rest of the way.  With LaRussa, it just didn’t happen.  The Rollie Fingers school of relief had given way to the Dennis Eckersley style.

I miss the complete game.  For that matter, I miss pitchers who had to hit.  In my day, Jim Hunter had to take at bats, and he was good.  Whoever it was who decided pitchers shouldn’t have to focus on hitting, too, is not in my book of favorite people.  I miss the complete player; the complete pitcher.

Assign it to strategy, philosophy, stamina, or whatever you want, but the reason for the loss of the complete game is LaRussa.  It’s really that simple.

PostHeaderIcon Choosing A Professional Coach For Baseball

If you want to develop your career in baseball game in Florida, Miami, Orlando, Tampa Bay or any other state in USA, you must take service of a professional coach. There are as many different coaching styles as there are coaches. You should choose a baseball coach who could train you professionally by giving some useful tips and tricks. There is no any exact rule book for baseball training exercise in terms of what will work best for you. An ideal coach should have capability to train their player by identifying their potential and work on those positive points rather than providing only theoretical facts. Florida ABL (Florida Amateur Baseball League) is a paramount baseball club that provides completely professional training for baseball.

Theoretical aspects of baseball rules can’t be neglected.  Players can’t be mastering in the game without adopting the basic rules into their training exercise under proper guidance of a professional coach. One of the most important things in any international game is how you manage stress during the match with your opponent. Baseball is not an exception, and it’s an important duty of a coach to train their player to handle stress brilliantly and tactically during the match. Your ability to deal with the stress will determine how effective you are as a baseball player.

Handling stress doesn’t only mean you can accept the umpire’s decision for the game, but it’s also about how you handle player outburst or pouting on the sidelines. How you handle this depends on if you are going to give some specific players more slack than others.  That’s not a bad thing in most cases but you need to know how you are going to handle it. A good baseball coach should have the ability to manage and analyze all players’ ability, execute baseball practice plans, get along with the umpire and respect the opponents. A Coach also provides diet charts to players so that they could be physically fit for the match. Coach should always be a role model for players so that players could be highly inspired from them and improve their baseball game.

You must choose your baseball coach cautiously who could train you according to your custom needs and requirements. Most successful coaches handle the players in the way players handle themselves which is not solely based on their skill level. Being a prominent baseball club and league, Florida Amateur Baseball League (ABL) has produced some renowned coaches and you can also get complete training there at a reasonable fee.

College Baseball Betting Lines

Although there is some question as to whether or not the title has been passed on to football, baseball has long been known as America’s favorite past time. Whether it is still at the top of the mound or not, though, baseball still attracts more than enough fans to make a lot of profit. Some of the profit generated by the sport comes from people who like to engage in a little bit of baseball betting, to make the game itself a bit more fun or just to try and make some money at what they know best. In this article, we are going to take a look at some information about baseball betting. College Baseball Betting Lines

The Golden Rule of Sports Betting:

Those who want to bet on baseball need to follow the same basic rule that applies to all sports betting.

Namely, do not count on winning more than 50% of the time! The sports books know what they are doing, and it is hard even for professional sports gamblers to make a living strictly by placing bets. There are some who do, but even the best tend to have off years. Remember to watch your payroll!

What makes betting on baseball so fun?

In the wide world of sports betting, there is perhaps no sport more fun to wager on than baseball. The main reason for this are the sheer number of variables that come into play when predicting the outcome of any baseball game.

Just what factors are we talking about? Well, the player roster is definitely one. Every game will see not only a new starting pitcher, but a new relief staff as well. The pitchers can make all the difference in a baseball game, and significantly alter a team’s chance at victory. The professional baseball season in particular is a long one, and that means that changes are likely to occur throughout the lineup from game to game. Good sports betting on baseball means being aware of who is playing what for each game!

Baseball betting is different from football betting, and other types of sports betting too, in that a team may find itself against another team many more games in a row. This means that those wagering on baseball games can bet series, if they wish, or calculate the odds of making a profit by wagering individual games in a steady manner. College Baseball Betting Lines

There are many ways to obtain the information you need in order to make informed wagers when baseball betting. Sports information lines are one of the most reliable; the big draw is live updates not only on odds but on roster changes as well. Having this information at your fingertips can certainly strengthen your chances of making a profit when betting baseball.

The favorite baseball bet:

Because baseball can often be a close game in terms of scores, the money line is the preferred sports bet for most gamblers. Money lines are straightforward picks of who will win or who will lose a given game.

For those who enjoy the predictions and (sometimes) better payouts that come with a spread, sports books also offer run lines on baseball games. These work the same way as spreads in football or basketball. The favorite team has to win by over a specified amount of runs (the run line) in order for a bettor to successfully collect. Conversely, the underdog could lose but not by more than the run line, and those who bet the underdog will win their bets.

Baseball betting, in the technical sense, is much more straightforward than football betting. Most of the time you are either betting on a team to win or to lose. However, the trick with baseball is in being able to do good research to win. There are many variables, so placing a wager on the outcome of a baseball game can be a lot of fun for the knowledgeable sports betting fan! College Baseball Betting Lines

PostHeaderIcon How To Buy Youth Baseball Cleats

You may be thinking that the more expensive or better cleats won’t make a difference at all to your kid’s game, your wrong. Cleats can help your child grip better to the baseball surface. Cleats can also make your children more comfortable whilst walking in cleats if they are  good quality, which you want to have. Cleats can also make your children have the extra advantage to steal the  next base if there light, comfortable and easy to walk in.

Prices

Of course there is also a budget in mind when you’re buying cleats, after all youth baseball is just a game, and you don’t want to break the bank just to get a cleat that’s a tiny bit better than the one that’s a lot cheaper. A good guide to go with is to buy the mid range price cleats; they will be of good quality, and you won’t necessarily break your bank for your child. The cheap cleats are not a good choice either as they may be cheaper, but in the long run they probably won’t last as long, and they are not made with as good quality as the more expensive ones which are also generally more comfy. Expensive cleats are not the way to go either as they are only marginally better than the mid range ones. It’s hard to justify 0+ youth baseball cleats when you’re buying your child top of the line cleats, as their feet also grow fast, and in 1-2 years you’re going to need to buy another pair.

Conclusion

In the end, buying those professional cleats will marginally  improve your child’s game. Money could be  better spent  on training or camps, to see if your child has the passion for baseball first.   Buying the lower range cleats will also do no favor, as they can be cheaply made, and not comfortable for your kid, which may turn your child off, or not realize his/her full potential. When thinking about buying baseball cleats next, buy ones that your child likes, in the middle price range.

PostHeaderIcon Baseball As a Board Game

Different video games will simply take an concept and permit folks to have a battle of wits using the supplies that the sport provides. Most people stop right here and don’t even think about the entire other prospects that board video games can present.

Nobody thinks that board video games will be based round different video games, which already exist, simply not in a board recreation format. It gives gamers with totally different choices when starting a game. One can both play in the Rookie League or the Huge League, every offering gamers with a distinct level of strategy to encounter.

The sport doesn’t present for statistics for particular person gamers, which will be each a blessing and a curse. The dearth of statistics will allow the game to stream way more smoothly, granting gamers the opportunity to get into the stream of the game. It can also be some extent of disappointment for any players who need to faux that they’re managing real gamers in their crew, as everyone will be on the same footing.
