Baseball Equipments: A Must Necessity For Every Baseball Athlete
Baseball equipment is utmost necessary for baseballs games. A good pitching machine can be the best example. With the help of this machine, one can build effectively arm, back, shoulder, upper body batting stamina etc. One can even improve the hand eye co-ordination and the batting technique. Even the softball equipment renders the same advantages and benefits. But such kind of appendix should be used properly in order to execute an effective output. The appendix should be chosen determining the age group of the players. For example, if the players fall in age group between 5 to 8 years old then the pitch should be made within a speed range of 20 to 40 meter per hour. The machine should be effective enough in order to deliver the desired pitch considering the surrounding factors.
People often get confused and wonder which ball to use while using a baseball equipment. They get confused whether to go for a real ball or a practice ball. They should go for practice ball, as its tire does not hit any seams. A seam present on a real ball can enable the pitch to vary on every ground. However, such kind of variations hardly alters the playing frequency of the older and experienced players. Synthetic balls are a strict no for pitching machine. They usually leave behind a build up on the tire, which becomes hard to remove and also affect the pitch. Baseball training aids also include bags. The bags play a vital role in the player’s gear. These are available in an array of fabric, shades and designs. Such kinds of accessories are recommended for every athlete, who is involved in this game. These softball training aids are available in various types such as basic, club, functional, backpack, batting carriers, roller, duffel style etc. These kinds of junkies can be easily fetched at cheaper prices from online shopping zones. The softballs are associated with such kind of softball equipments, which are usually light in weight, besides rendering maximum space for storing fence clips, cleats, money, i pods, wireless phones etc. Moreover, these baseball equipments are comprised of ventilated foot wear tunnel sections for storing valuable items.
James Shields Shuts Down The Boston Red Sox
Big Game James Shields pitched a complete game shutout, great Rays defense and timely hitting helped the Rays beat the Boston Red Sox 4-0 in game one of their series. The Rays cooled down the hottest team in baseball at the half full Tropicana Field as fans booed former teammate Carl Crawford. Most of the Tampa Bay area believes that Carl Crawford is a traitor for signing with the Boston Red Sox, an enemy in the American League East.
The Boston Red Sox are the hottest team in baseball. They stole the New York Yankees ideal on trying to buy World Series Championships with their heavy pocketbooks. The Red Sox picked up Carl Crawford and other great players through free-agency to make a run at another championship.
Some are unhappy that the first game of the Rays/Red Sox series was not sold out, but there are a few reasons for the lack of fans. The Tampa Bay area is still reeling from a horrible economy; people just don’t have money to buy tickets to the game. Many people have lost their houses due to foreclosures and have to decide to eat and pay their bills or waste their money on Major League Baseball. The Rays also raised the prices this year even though they told everybody they did not. The team lists games by silver, gold, platinum etc. The lesser games are cheaper and the gold and platinum games cost more. What the Rays did was raise some of the games and made them higher echelon games which mean a higher cost to fans, very sneaky. Also, who wants to pay twenty to thirty bucks for parking to the game? Another problem is the threats the Rays ownership has strewn through the media, we need more fans or we have to go. This is not a way to develop a following.
Justin Ruggiano began the scoring by hitting a home-run off of Tim Wakefield and the Rays scored three more well earned runs to complete the win. James Shields was lights-out; the Red Sox could not hit Shields who should earn a trip to the All-Star game in July. The Rays defense was incredible, including a great snag on a low throw by Longoria to Kotchman at first. Kevin Youkilis showed his stripes by spiking the Rays first-baseman on purpose and complaining on an out call that was not even close. It is a shame when MLB baseball players whine when things don’t go their way all of the time. Rays manager Joe Maddon says watch out.
Game one is over and the Tampa Bay Rays were victorious. They outplayed the Boston Red Sox after a tough/long road trip where the Rays went 6-5 after beginning the trip 1-3 against the Seattle Mariners. The Boston Red Sox came into Tropicana Field expecting to score in double figures again and crush the Rays. Once again the Red Sox were surprised by good pitching and better defense.
Game two of the series is tonight at Tropicana Field at 7:10 PM. The Rays will throw Jeremy Hellickson against Josh Beckett from the Boston Red Sox. If the Rays win tonight, they will win the series. The Boston Red Sox will itching to get their first runs of the series, but will have to face another great Rays pitcher in Hellickson. See you at the game and go Rays.
Double Take: Second Base Fantasy Baseball Players for the Second Half of 2011
Entering the it is time to consider your options at several positions for your team. You may be looking to acquire players either through a trade or the waiver wire. Regardless of where you turn to for help improving your team, there are many options to consider. I recently discussed your . Let’s concentrate on potential players to consider in filling your roster position at .
–
Like many of his White Sox teammates, Beckham has struggled in the first half of 2011. After showing promise late in the season last year, Beckham has once again started a season slowly. Perhaps this will become a trend with the young second baseman. If last year is any indication, he should have a decent (if unspectacular) second half in 2011. Last year, his slash line prior to the All Star break was .216/.277/.304. After the break he hit markedly better, putting up a line of .310/.380/.497 and doubling his HR output in the process. As his teammates in the Windy City improve in the second half, look for Beckham to follow the trend.
–
“Ugly Dan” can’t produce stats quite as ugly in the second half, can he? Entering the break he was producing a mere .185/.257/.365. From 2008-2010, Uggla hit .390/.445/.710 at Turner Field, his new home park. While his power projects to his usual 30 HR, his peripherals simply have to improve in the second half. The concept of ‘regression to the mean’ virtually assures it.
]]>
–
Espinosa proved his many detractors wrong in the first half of 2011 by putting up elite fantasy numbers for a second baseman with 16 HR, 52 RBI and 12 SB. His power didn’t come as a surprise as he did hit 6 HR in 103 AB in the second half of 2010. It’s the stolen bases that have pushed his value over the top. Although he stole no bases in 2010, he did swipe 29 bags in the minor leagues the previous season. If you have the chance to grab Espinosa, get him.
–
Once the class of his position, injuries have now relegated Utley to a shadow of his former self. Last season it was a thumb injury and in 2011 a knee injury has cut into his productivity. The good news is that the knee problems haven’t seemed to slow Utley down as he has stolen 9 bases since his return. However, it is Utley’s power stroke that has all but abandoned him. Without the ability to produce at his past home run rate, Utley is riding on name recognition alone. Sell him if you can.
–
Sure, everyone expected Hill to regress after his 2009 output of 36 HR. He didn’t surprise by dropping to 26 in 2010. However, losing 81 points on his BA was not expected and caused his fantasy value to plummet. Although he displayed some surprising speed early in the 2011 season, he has slowed down on the base paths as the season has wore on. With an OBP of a scant .279, don’t expect too many more steals either. Combine that fact with an abysmal power outage (4 HR in 2011) and Hill should be avoided at all costs.
–
Always a reliable player in the field, Ellis has brought little offense to the table throughout his career. However, he does have modest double digit power in HR and SB and a move to Coors Field is almost certainly to provide a boost in his production (proven by his torrid start with the Rockies). Playing time shouldn’t be an issue moving forward but he may best serve your fantasy team as a “sell high” candidate at this point.
You may want to consider waiver wire options at second base for the second half, depending upon your specific statistical requirements.
For runs and stolen bases, consider adding:
Alexi Casilla (MIN), Chris Getz (KC), Orlando Hudson (SD), Jemile Weeks (OAK)
When looking to consider making any moves in the second half, second base is a position that is worth a double take.
The Story of Robert Hughes Founder of Wesco
At the age of 28 Robert Hughes was living in California
working for the commercial arm of a US bank. He was not
happy. He says: ‘I hated my job. I was completely bored and
became a clock watcher. And I realised that there was a very
good chance I was going to be equally bored in another job
so I had better do something different.’
Brought up in Cheshire, Hughes always dreamt of setting
up his own business and after leaving school took a business
degree at Thames Polytechnic, now the University of
Greenwich. He says: ‘My father was a self-employed insur-
ance broker and my mother’s family all had their own busi-
nesses. The culture at home was very much that, if you were
going to make it in this life, you had to do it on your own.’
But unsure of how to realise his ambition, Hughes initially
took a job with a leasing company. After seven years in the
corporate world however, he realised that if he really wanted
to follow his dream then it was now or never.
He decided that he wanted to start up an export business
selling unusual US products back home in England. When
he had been at polytechnic a former graduate had returned
to tell the class how he had set himself up in business as
the UK import and distribution agent for a German
company that made garden machinery. Hughes says: ‘I
thought it was the perfect job because you got to use
languages and there was foreign travel involved – but you
were your own boss.’
Hughes did some research and found a couple of unusual
products he liked in California, but he was not convinced
that people would want to buy them in the UK. The first was
a cover for automobiles called a nose bra which strapped
across the bonnet to protect the car from stone chips. The
second was a windscreen visor which fitted behind the
windscreen to keep the car cool. He says: ‘Both those ideas
appealed very much, but they were both very southern
California and didn’t wear so well in wet climates.’
Then one day he was at a friend’s house for coffee when
another friend Hughes had never met happened to pop in.
They started chatting and during their conversation Hughes
heard about something which was to become his big idea.
The visitor was a joiner and mentioned that he was doing
some work at the home of a lawyer who had invented an
alarm clock that was made like a baseball. When the alarm
went off in the morning, you threw the ball at the wall to
switch it off.
Hughes was transfixed. He says: ‘It was like the scales had
been lifted from my eyes. I thought it sounded like a fantastic
product that I could sell in England. Everybody hates getting
up in the morning and the idea of taking out your early
morning anger on your clock just seemed the perfect idea.’
The next day Hughes phoned the lawyer and asked to meet
him. Over lunch the lawyer agreed to give Hughes exclusive
rights to sell the baseball alarm clock in Britain, provided he
was prepared to buy 30,000 of them upfront. Hughes did not
have the money to do that but fortunately his father had
recently retired after selling his own insurance business and
agreed to act as guarantor at the bank. So Hughes was able to
borrow the money he needed to buy the clocks. Then he asked
his father and an old school friend to help him sell the alarm
clock to mail order companies in Britain.
It quickly became clear that there was big demand for the
baseball clock, and so Hughes decided to branch out into
other items. He managed to find another dozen unusual
products from California which he thought he might be able
to sell in Britain, including a Garfield wristwatch.
Sales went so well that after six months he gave up his job
with the bank in California and returned to England to set
up his own company, which he called Wesco. Then he
started running the business full time from the basement of
his father’s house.
With sales of his imported products going well, Hughes
started acquiring licences to make products based on film and
television characters. He decided to start with a Bart Simpson
clock that spoke in the character’s voice when the alarm went
off. He says: ‘Nobody had ever done that before and it was a
phenomenal success. We sold about 250,000 of those clocks.’
He took on more licences and the business grew to include
watches, radios and money boxes, with the company design-
ing all the products in Britain and getting them made in
Chinese factories. Each time Hughes followed the guiding
principle that every product he sold had to have a purpose.
He says: ‘I decided that whatever I imported had to have a
purpose as well as being fun. Because if a product has abso-
lutely no function then within two months it will end up in
the back of a cupboard somewhere because the novelty had
worn off. But even once the novelty of throwing your alarm
clock at the wall has worn off, it still tells the time and it will
still wake you up in the morning.’
Six years ago, however, the business was suddenly
plunged into crisis. The US dollar fell sharply in value and
Wesco was hit by currency losses of £180,000. At the same
time, two of the licences it had bought, for the movie Chicken
Run and the television series The Royle Family, turned out to
be duds, losing the company £250,000 over two years.
Hughes says: ‘We had been making money hand over fist
with the animated characters Wallace and Gromit, so when
we were offered Chicken Run, which was another Nick Park
production, we thought it couldn’t fail. But the reason
Wallace and Gromit did well is that Gromit is a cute little dog.
Chickens aren’t cute. Why would you want to cuddle a
chicken? You would get your eyes pecked out.’
By the start of 2002, after two years of losses, Hughes
realised that he had two stark choices: sell the business or
turn it around and make it profitable again. He says: ‘It
was a pivotal moment. I talked to my wife about selling it
every day.’
When someone offered him a paltry amount to take the
business off his hands, however, Hughes realised he was not
about to give up that easily. ‘The money on offer was pitiful
compared with what the business was really worth,’ he says.
‘I decided that I had made the business work for 13 of the
previous 15 years, so I could do it again.’
Hughes reduced his workforce by two people, recruited
in-house designers and hired a new sales team. Then he
decided to expand the product range into lifestyle gifts.
He immediately struck gold with a Simpsons talking
bottle opener, selling more than 600,000 of them. Then he
did the same with a girls’ accessory range called Groovy
Chick, which became a huge success.
The firm now sells a range of 400 products and has annual
sales of £7 million, most of them to Argos, Boots and
Debenhams.
Hughes says that dealing with the crisis was a big learn-
ing curve: ‘After 13 years of making profits there was a
feeling that we couldn’t make products fast enough and that
it was easy. But the experience of those two years re-instilled
in me the fear of failure.’
He admits to being very cautious in his business dealings,
something he thinks he learnt from his time working in a
bank. He says: ‘I worry more about telling a best friend that I
have just gone bankrupt than I would about telling a
complete stranger that I have just made another million.
That is the driver for me. If I can stay in business until I am
55, I will be a happy boy.’
Now 41, Hughes says he had always felt the need to carve
out his own destiny. ‘I have to have my own way,’ he says.
‘If I don’t get my own way, I am not happy. I sometimes
have to stop myself because I go home and am still playing
the managing director.’
He says that one of his primary motivations has been his
father. ‘My sister became a lawyer and then a judge and was
the apple of my dad’s eye,’ he says. ‘So one of my biggest
driving forces was the desire for my father’s approval,
because she had it in spades. Now when he talks about his
children I know that I get as much airtime as my sister.’

How To Choose A Great Baseball Bat
Perhaps the most important aspect of baseball is to have a bat that suits your needs. A bat’s weight, length, and material can all have a positive or negative affect on a batter’s swing. Consider every option when choosing a baseball bat for yourself.
Bats come in all shapes and sizes. Wooden bats are often popular with major leaguers, but some feel you get a better crack using a metal baseball bat. There are restrictions, however, on which bats can be used.
Every league has rules on what material a bat can be made from and the circumference of the bat’s barrel. Do not become ejected from a game because you failed to pay attention to the rules. Ask the appropriate commissioner, umpire, or coach to give you the rules on weight and height ratios. Remember that corked bats are not allowed for anything other than practice in many leagues.
When shopping for a bat, read the packaging. It is becoming increasingly common for a bat to have print directly on it that states, “Approved for such and such a league.” This can help you select a bat that will meet your needs and any restrictions.
]]>
Baseball bats can be as low as and as high as 0. A pricey bat is not necessarily an excellent bat, just as an inexpensive bat does not mean that bat is inferior quality. The key to making any bat work for you is by practicing regularly. Nonetheless, you should find a bat that is appropriate to your strengths and weaknesses.
Today’s bats are advanced. The thin walls, wood choices, and formation can create the perfect environment for a ball to go flying. These same bats are also far more susceptible to dents and fractures; so increased technology is not necessarily the greatest option. Babe Ruth managed to hit numerous home runs without using today’s streamlined bats.
Batting cages often have balls pitched harder and faster than in a normal baseball game. If you regularly practice in batting cages, consider a metal bat. They are able to withstand the test of time better than one of today’s wooden bats.
Speaking of today’s bats, some even have nitrogen or helium inside. A bat enhanced with these gasses allows more of a “trampoline effect”, meaning the ball literally bounces off the bat at impact. This causes the ball to travel farther.
Visit stores and sample a variety of bats to find which baseball bat feels best to you. There is no tried or true formula for choosing a length. For this reason, it is far more beneficial to sample a number of bats until you find a bat that feels like an extension of your arm. The bat should allow you to swing freely without feeling like the weight of the baseball bat is knocking you off balance.
Never choose a bat that will last for a few years, especially for children. Any bat should fit for that immediate season, not be something a child grows into.
By following a few simple steps, you can find a bat that feels natural. As an extension of yourself, you are guaranteed to improve your swing!

In a very play of baseball, the glove of baseball might be discovered tapi behind the dish with the home and catches the ball from the jug. You Can Get Jobs in Amusement Parks
Growing up in a place where there are a number of tourist attractions like amusement parks is fortunate! These tourist attractions make for excellent opportunities for amusement park jobs for teenagers looking for exciting ways to earn some additional spending money. In fact jobs at amusement parks are quite popular with teenagers as much as they are with adults. Even in these times of economic difficulties, people look for ways to rake some money to take a break at theme parks. It may not be more than once in a season, but they will still find a way to be there! Even though there may not be shopping and money spent on games, but the admission fee is somehow managed making sure amusement parks always remain in business. With several options to get discounted rates on tickets and coupons for discounts online, it is easier to enjoy a day at the amusement park nearby!
So what kinds of amusement park jobs are easily accessible? You need people to man the food stalls, you need somebody to operate the rides and ensure safety of the visitors. There are security jobs at the admission gate where you find attendants selling you tickets and checking your pre-purchased tickets before you enter the park. Then there are the less flattering maintenance jobs at an amusement park required to keep the place in order. Litter has to be cleared and bathrooms need cleaning. These maintenance jobs may not be the ones you are looking for, but they do offer a paycheck and have their own perks.
One of the best perks of working at an amusement park is the free tickets that come with the employment. You can get your family or friends for a day out on one of your off days! Though it did not pay so well earlier, amusement park jobs today pay better minimum wages. In addition to this, the education that you have to undertake moves you up the payscale. Some jobs need the education while others are quite effortless. For instance, operating the rides would require more instructions than a job where you are manning the stalls.
Some of these amusement parks also hire for higher positions that are managerial or supervisory. These positions would require more training and experience though. What you will also require are organizational skills to be able to move up the ladder.
As an attendant you would require qualities like energy, patience and enthusiasm. Even though the job may be very easy, you are required to have people skills and be amiable and courteous at all times. If you love meeting strangers and can interact easily with them, you are made for an amusement park job! An outgoing personality is definitely a plus for the employer.
For jobs at the park, skills in baseball or skiing and other similar areas will be a plus too. You will mostly be left unsupervised, so it is important that you come across as a reliable and responsible person if you want to land a job with an amusement park.
In my experience, one of the best amusement parks to work in or visit has to be Knotts Berry Farm.

This is the manual you NEED to pick up before everybody else does so you can start putting this information into practice and start dominating today.
The hands hold and control the bat. While the legs generate power and the core initiates movement, the hands are what actually takes the bat to where it is supposed to go and what transfer all the leg and core power through the bat and into the ball.
Pitching involves transferring the power generated by the legs and core throughout the wind-up into the ball by snapping the wrist like the end of a bull whip.
Pitching also involves the ability to angle the wrist through varying degrees of rotation and deviation for pitches such as curveballs, sliders, sinkers, and screwballs.
How many times have we seen outfielders dive for a ball only to roll their wrist underneath them and miss half the season or more? With correct lower arm strengthening protocols, we can strengthen everything from the elbow down in order to make it more resilient against injury and allow us to bounce back quicker if we do experience an injury of this kind.

When you slide there is always a chance for us to bend a wrist too far back, jam a finger on a bag or shoe, or get stepped on by a cleat. We have to do everything we can to make our hands bullet proof, and this can be done with the short and concise workouts I have already planned for you. Don’t have much equipment? No problem. I have given you hundreds of movements to choose from with many alternatives for the equipment you use.
Baseball is loaded with unilateral movement and imbalance. Throwing, Pitching, Non-Switch Hitting, and Catching are all examples of things we do with one side of the body but not the other. This leads to cumulative trauma throughout various parts of our bodies and eventually injury and downtime. This problem is compounded by improper grip training practices. I will show you how to maintain balance in your training with proper exercise selection.
Finally, thanks to the Ultimate Forearm Training for Baseball Manual, you will be able to MAXIMIZE all of the benefits of a strong grip!

Los Angeles Dodgers Baseball Tickets Available
Article by Gen Wright
Based in Los Angeles, California, USAThe Los Angeles Dodgers are a Major League Baseball team established in 1883. The team originated in Brooklyn, New York. There it was used to be known as the Brooklyn Dodgers. The team moved to Los Angeles and became the Los Angeles Dodgers before the 1958 season. The Dodgers currently holds the National League West championship title.
Important moment and accomplishments:
Century Old RivalryThe rivalry between Dodgers and the Giants is more than a century old. It begun when both clubs played in New York City. It is more than a century old, and is the longest rivalry in baseball history. The rivalry gained new intensity when both franchises moved to California in 1958. The cities of Los Angeles and San Francisco have long been rival throughout the history of California.
Manager Wilbert Robinson led the team alternately called “Brooklyn Robins” to win respective pennants to reach the 1916 and 1920 World Series They lost to the Boston Red Sox on 1916, 4-1. They lost to Cleveland Indians in 1920.
On April 15, 1947 Jackie Robinson played his first major league game as a member of the Brooklyn Dodgers. He became the first African American to play for a Major League Baseball team.
“Wait til next year!” became an unofficial Dodger slogan as the annual ritual of excitement followed by disappointment became a common pattern to the long suffering fans. Their next year finally came in 1955 when they defeated the New York Yankees to clinch their first ever franchise victory in World Series championship. That happens to be only series they won in Brooklyn as the team relocated to Los Angeles in 1957.

In 2007, the Dodgers had a record of 54-41, then the best record in the National League but fell to 60-59. They were seven games out of first place in the National League West. The Dodgers were able to improve their standing to 79-69 record with three weeks left in the season. They were trailing the San Diego Padres by 1 1/2 games in the wild card slot. They lost 10 of their next 11 games, which eliminated them from post season play. They finished the season with a disappointing 82-80 record.
The Dodgers clinched the 2008 National League Western Division title on September 25 as the Arizona Diamondbacks were eliminated by losing to the St. Louis Cardinals 12-3. On October 4, 2008 they beat the Cubs 3-0 to sweep the 2008 NLDS and moved on to the NLCS, where they faced the Philadelphia Phillies and were eliminated, losing the series 4-2.
Fans would surely look forward to see the Los Angeles Dodgers defend their National League Western Division title in the up coming season and take a shot to another World Series matches in the future.
Better Youth Baseball Gloves
A good ball glove can have a big effect on youth’s enjoyment of playing baseball and even about whether baseball is a worthwhile sport for them to participate in. Kids could be playing many other sports, and in fact, participation in basketball and soccer is growing fast in the US. There’s no better summer sport or pastime than baseball though. It has a rich American tradition that other sports don’t possess and that’s an important part of your own child’s sports experience.
Baseball is a game that is dependent on equipment though, and if the equipment is poor quality or in doesn’t suit the kids using them, it can dampen their enthusiasm for little league baseball. It’s important to buy youth baseball gloves for your child, not small adult baseball gloves which will discourage your youngster.
They had poor equipment back in the old days, including rotted out or horribly stiff leather gloves. Some would actually throw the glove down and try to catch with their bare hands. It may not be that bad today, but in visiting your local sporting goods store, you’ve probably wondered about the quality of the gloves on the store shelves. Some are weird shapes and feel uncomfortable and the selection is many times limited.
The Good Old Days
Have you ever wondered whether baseball glove manufacturers are producing better ball gloves now than in decades past? Well, if you happen to have an old baseball glove still around and compare it to modern youth baseball gloves, you’ll notice a big difference. Those old gloves didn’t make catching and fielding easy for infielders, outfielders and especially catchers. You actually had to have some outstanding athletic skills and knowledge of catching to make a catch. In those days, you used both hands to catch a ball because you had to.
That’s not to say these new gloves are suited to the ball player that’s using them. These kids range in physical size greatly, and play different positions. The child that has a new, well-fitted glove is going to catch the ball better and play with a lot more confidence.
]]>
Young ball players with their metal bats are hitting the ball hard, so infielders and outfielders need good gloves just to catch them, let alone throw the runner out at first. We shouldn’t just assume that any glove would do for our child. Each youngster has their own level of coordination and confidence, along with their own style and preferences, and fortunately, there are so many types and styles of gloves available now, that you should be able to find one they like. You don’t see kids get hurt often but it does happen and it will happen more often with the child that feels uncomfortable with the baseball equipment they’re using.
Bad Bounces
Last week, while watching a youth baseball game (11 year olds) a batter hit a ball hard up the middle, fortunately missing the pitcher. The ball hit the side of the mound and bounced up to hit the base umpire in the shoulder. She was hurt and lay on the ground several minutes before getting up. That highlighted well, the speed the balls are reaching and that the young infielder playing with awkward baseball glove is going to playing with fear. Yes, some fear is good, as it keeps them sharp and makes the game exciting, but too much fear and they’re going to get discouraged.
Many of the kids on these teams have gloves that are too small, and overwhelmingly, you see their reluctance to catch well-hit grounders. They generally wave at it going by them and sigh in relief that it wasn’t hit right at them. One youngster in the outfield ran to make a diving catch only to have the ball pop out of his glove. They used to see that if your glove touched a ball, you should have caught it and it is an error for you. When a ball is in your glove, it should stay in there. In this kid’s case, the ball was clearly in his glove and yet it popped out. The reason for that is that the glove didn’t fit his hand and the web wouldn’t close tightly.
He walked dejectedly back to centerfield, his position, and cursed at himself for dropping it. It was like a scene out of a Charlie Brown episode. If he’d hung onto that ball, he would have been walking on clouds and be the pride of the team. I don’t have to tell you how important peer pressure is with kids these days and when kids never catch the ball, it can deflate the team and even the crowd of parents watching the game. Sometimes, it’s downright torture to watch a ball game if the kids can’t catch or throw properly.
Young pitchers too, can have trouble throwing strikes, and after walking batter after batter, you can sense disappointment. The glove on the pitcher’s hand acts as a counterbalance when throwing and if it doesn’t feel comfortable for him, you may be in for a long inning.
A fair number of kids come from homes that can’t afford a new glove every year and they may not be able to afford baseball shoes. If there’s one piece of equipment you need to focus on for youth baseball players, it has to be the glove. Your child is out there standing for half of the game, with this glove on their hand. If it’s uncomfortable, and doesn’t fit, that has to take some of the enjoyment out of it.
There’s a mind-boggling array of youth baseball brands out there to choose from Rawling, Mizuno, Wilson, Spalding, Rawlings, Nokona, Akadema, Kelly, Nike, Louisville, SSK and more. The problem with many of these big brand names is not only the inflated prices associated with these brands, it’s the weight and stiffness of the gloves. The materials and the stitching are sewn well enough. They aren’t designed with kids in mind who after all, don’t have time to break the glove in. Within one year, they will have likely outgrown the glove, so what’s the point of buying a glove like that? The glove ends up unused in a closet or on the garage floor becoming a nuisance object.
